# What Decides the Cost of Landscape Lighting in Naples

The cost of landscape lighting in Naples is set by how many fixtures the design needs, what they're made of, how far the wire runs and through what, how tall the palms are, and how much control you want. Running it is the small part. Twenty LED up lights on a dusk-to-dawn schedule use about 24 to 32 kilowatt-hours a month, which is roughly $3 to $4 on FPL's residential rate effective October 2026 \[[1](https://www.nightscapeslandscapelighting.com/blog/landscape-lighting-cost-naples#ref-1)\]\[[2](https://www.nightscapeslandscapelighting.com/blog/landscape-lighting-cost-naples#ref-2)\]\[[3](https://www.nightscapeslandscapelighting.com/blog/landscape-lighting-cost-naples#ref-3)\].

Free Consultations and Estimates

This guide doesn't quote installation prices. It names what moves them, so you can read any landscape lighting quote in Naples line by line and decide what to spend on first. Most cost pages leave out the part that's specific to this coast. Think of palms that grow 50 to 100 feet tall, salt that travels inland on the wind, sandy ground that stays wet all summer, and beaches where sea turtle rules decide what may be lit at all.

Palms taller than about 30 feet

Fixtures per palm

A royal palm grows to 50 to 70 feet and a coconut palm to over 80 to 100 feet (UF/IFAS), so a mature palm often needs more output or a second fixture.\[[8](https://www.nightscapeslandscapelighting.com/blog/landscape-lighting-cost-naples#ref-8)\]\[[9](https://www.nightscapeslandscapelighting.com/blog/landscape-lighting-cost-naples#ref-9)\]

### Key takeaways

- The number of fixtures and the material they're made of set most of a landscape lighting quote; FX Luminaire builds its premium line in brass and copper for protection from the environment \[[4](https://www.nightscapeslandscapelighting.com/blog/landscape-lighting-cost-naples#ref-4)\].
- Long wire runs, and runs that cross pavers, a pool deck or tree roots, add cost because the wire has to be sized and routed to keep every fixture between 10 and 15 volts \[[5](https://www.nightscapeslandscapelighting.com/blog/landscape-lighting-cost-naples#ref-5)\].
- Naples adds four drivers most cost guides skip: palm height, distance from salt water, sand and irrigation, and sea turtle lighting rules on beachfront lots.
- On FPL's October 2026 rate, 20 LED up lights running dusk to dawn cost about $3 to $4 a month; the same 20 fixtures with 20-watt halogen lamps cost about $15 to $20 \[[1](https://www.nightscapeslandscapelighting.com/blog/landscape-lighting-cost-naples#ref-1)\].

01Fixtures and materials

## The fixture count and the materials set most of the number

Two things set most of a landscape lighting quote in Naples: how many fixtures the design calls for and what each fixture is made of. FX Luminaire, the Hunter Industries brand NightScapes installs, makes fixtures from powder-coated aluminum, brass, copper, zinc, composite and stainless steel. It reserves brass and copper for the line it says gives "the highest level of protection from the environment" \[[6](https://www.nightscapeslandscapelighting.com/blog/landscape-lighting-cost-naples#ref-6)\]\[[4](https://www.nightscapeslandscapelighting.com/blog/landscape-lighting-cost-naples#ref-4)\].

The count comes from the design, not from a package. A design decides what gets lit (a facade, a path, three palms, a seawall) and, just as important, what stays dark. Every fixture brings its own LED board, its own lead wire, its own connection in the ground and its own installation time, so the count drives labor as much as materials.

Material is the second lever. FX's FB up light is die-cast aluminum with a "two-layer marine-grade anodization and powder coat finish" \[[2](https://www.nightscapeslandscapelighting.com/blog/landscape-lighting-cost-naples#ref-2)\]. Its FG path light uses a machined C360 brass cap and spun C110 copper, and FX rates its LEDs at 72,000 hours to the point where light output falls to 70 percent (L70) \[[7](https://www.nightscapeslandscapelighting.com/blog/landscape-lighting-cost-naples#ref-7)\]. FX's own guidance puts the tiers plainly: "Choose fixtures constructed with high-grade brass, copper, or stainless steel for upscale installations, or aluminum fixtures for a more modest look" \[[4](https://www.nightscapeslandscapelighting.com/blog/landscape-lighting-cost-naples#ref-4)\]. Brass and copper cost more up front. Near the water, that protection is what the extra cost buys.

A bronze-colored finish isn't bronze. If a quote says "bronze," ask whether that's the metal or the paint.

A design decides what gets lit

02Wire runs

## How far the wire runs, and what it runs through

Wire distance is the cost driver nobody sees once the job is done. "Today, a majority of landscape lighting systems operate on 12 V," FX Luminaire's design guide says \[[6](https://www.nightscapeslandscapelighting.com/blog/landscape-lighting-cost-naples#ref-6)\]. At 12 volts, the length and gauge of every run decide whether the farthest fixture still gets enough power. FX tells installers that each LED fixture should receive between 10 and 15 volts \[[5](https://www.nightscapeslandscapelighting.com/blog/landscape-lighting-cost-naples#ref-5)\].

Voltage drops along a wire. The longer the run and the thinner the wire, the bigger the drop. That's why FX lists 16/2, 14/2 and 12/2 as the common wire sizes, and it warns: "It is imperative to take voltage drop into account even when designing an LED lighting system" \[[5](https://www.nightscapeslandscapelighting.com/blog/landscape-lighting-cost-naples#ref-5)\]. A quote that runs a palm at the back of the lot from a transformer by the garage needs heavier wire, a second run, or a second transformer. Each of those is a line on the quote.

What the wire runs through matters as much as how far. Open sand trenches quickly. Pavers, a pool deck, a lanai slab, driveway concrete and the root zone of a live oak don't. Crossing hardscape means boring under it, lifting and resetting pavers, or running through a sleeve someone left during construction.

A run that goes around a pool deck instead of under it gets longer. A longer run loses more voltage on its way to the 10-volt floor FX sets for its LED fixtures \[[5](https://www.nightscapeslandscapelighting.com/blog/landscape-lighting-cost-naples#ref-5)\]. As NightScapes puts it on its main landscape lighting page, "Often the design is sound and the failure is in the connections or the wire." Good connections and the right gauge are worth paying for at the start.

03What Naples adds

## What Naples adds: palms, salt air, sand and turtle season

Naples adds four cost drivers most cost guides miss: tall palms, salt spray, wet sandy ground and sea turtle rules. The University of Florida puts royal palms at 50 to 70 feet and coconut palms at over 80 to 100 feet \[[8](https://www.nightscapeslandscapelighting.com/blog/landscape-lighting-cost-naples#ref-8)\]\[[9](https://www.nightscapeslandscapelighting.com/blog/landscape-lighting-cost-naples#ref-9)\]. A mature palm often needs more output, or a second fixture, to light its full height.

Palms can make two similar-looking yards quote very differently. [Each palm is aimed on its own](https://www.nightscapeslandscapelighting.com/tree-palm-uplighting), and a palm that keeps growing needs a system that can keep up. FX's design guide tells installers to "properly size cables and transformers to accommodate the capacity that will be needed to illuminate the tree over time" \[[6](https://www.nightscapeslandscapelighting.com/blog/landscape-lighting-cost-naples#ref-6)\].

Salt is the second Naples driver. A FEMA technical bulletin on metal connectors and fasteners in coastal buildings puts it plainly: "The amount of salt spray in the air is greatest near breaking waves and declines rapidly in the first 300 to 3,000 feet landward of the shoreline" \[[10](https://www.nightscapeslandscapelighting.com/blog/landscape-lighting-cost-naples#ref-10)\]. The same bulletin notes faster corrosion as far as 5 to 10 miles inland \[[10](https://www.nightscapeslandscapelighting.com/blog/landscape-lighting-cost-naples#ref-10)\]. On a Gulf-front or bayfront lot, that's the argument for brass, copper and stainless hardware over painted aluminum.

The ground matters too. Salt carries inland on the wind, irrigation runs over the same heads every day, and the ground stays wet all summer. Sealed fixtures and sealed connections cost more than the basic version, and on this coast they're the difference between a system that lasts and one that's dug up.

Turtle season is the fourth. Collier County's sea turtle rules apply to development or its lighting within 300 feet of coastal mean high water, and where they apply, the code says: "Floodlights and landscape or accent lighting shall be prohibited" \[[11](https://www.nightscapeslandscapelighting.com/blog/landscape-lighting-cost-naples#ref-11)\]. For existing homes with lights visible from the beach, the county requires lights off after 9:00 p.m. from May 1 to October 31, or fixtures hooded or positioned so they can't be seen from the beach \[[11](https://www.nightscapeslandscapelighting.com/blog/landscape-lighting-cost-naples#ref-11)\]. On a [beachfront lot](https://www.nightscapeslandscapelighting.com/turtle-friendly-lighting), that can change the design itself, not just the fixtures.

04Transformer and controls

## The transformer and the controls

The transformer is the box that turns your 120-volt household current into the 12 volts the fixtures run on. It's sized to the total load of every fixture on it \[[6](https://www.nightscapeslandscapelighting.com/blog/landscape-lighting-cost-naples#ref-6)\]. Fixtures are rated in volt-amperes (VA) as well as watts. FX's FB up light draws 4.0 watts but loads the transformer at 4.4 VA, and FX's design guide says to add up the VA, not the watts, when sizing \[[2](https://www.nightscapeslandscapelighting.com/blog/landscape-lighting-cost-naples#ref-2)\]\[[6](https://www.nightscapeslandscapelighting.com/blog/landscape-lighting-cost-naples#ref-6)\].

"It is important to use VA when calculating transformer consumption since most lamps or LED fixtures consume more power than their rated wattage," the guide explains. It also tells installers not to load a transformer beyond 80 percent of its rated capacity, so lights can be added or upgraded later \[[6](https://www.nightscapeslandscapelighting.com/blog/landscape-lighting-cost-naples#ref-6)\]. That's why the transformer is a real line on a quote, not an accessory. A system with more fixtures, longer runs or room for later additions needs a larger transformer, or two. Where it's mounted matters as well: if the system switches on with a photocell, FX notes that "the photocell needs to 'see' the ambient outdoor light level," which rules out some convenient but shaded spots \[[6](https://www.nightscapeslandscapelighting.com/blog/landscape-lighting-cost-naples#ref-6)\].

Controls are the most variable cost driver. A simple photocell and timer turn a system on and off. FX's [Luxor controller](https://www.nightscapeslandscapelighting.com/smart-landscape-lighting) goes much further: up to 250 independent lighting zones and 30,000 color options per zone, adjustable from an app once a network module is added \[[12](https://www.nightscapeslandscapelighting.com/blog/landscape-lighting-cost-naples#ref-12)\]. Zoning and dimming need compatible fixtures, so the choice belongs at the start of the design, not after the install.

05Running cost

## What an LED system costs to run on an FPL bill

Running LED landscape lighting in Naples costs a few dollars a month. Twenty FX FB up lights at 4.0 watts each draw 80 watts. On a dusk-to-dawn schedule that's about 24.6 kilowatt-hours in a June month and 32.4 in a December month, or about $3.01 to $3.97 at FPL's October 2026 rate for the first 1,000 kilowatt-hours \[[1](https://www.nightscapeslandscapelighting.com/blog/landscape-lighting-cost-naples#ref-1)\]\[[2](https://www.nightscapeslandscapelighting.com/blog/landscape-lighting-cost-naples#ref-2)\]\[[3](https://www.nightscapeslandscapelighting.com/blog/landscape-lighting-cost-naples#ref-3)\].

1. 20 fixtures x 4.0 watts = 80 watts
2. 80 watts x 10.2 hours (June) or 13.5 hours (December) x 30 nights = 24.6 or 32.4 kWh
3. x 12.258 cents per kWh = about $3.01 to $3.97 a month

How we worked it out: FPL's residential (RS-1) charges effective October 2026 add up to 12.258 cents per kilowatt-hour for the first 1,000 kilowatt-hours and 14.258 cents above that, before taxes and fees \[[1](https://www.nightscapeslandscapelighting.com/blog/landscape-lighting-cost-naples#ref-1)\]. In Naples, the U.S. Naval Observatory has the sun setting at 8:22 p.m. on June 21, 2026 and rising at 6:36 a.m., about 10.2 hours of dark, and setting at 5:40 p.m. on December 21, 2026 and rising at 7:10 a.m., about 13.5 hours \[[3](https://www.nightscapeslandscapelighting.com/blog/landscape-lighting-cost-naples#ref-3)\].

What 20 landscape lights cost to run in Naples20 fixtures, 30 nights, FPL residential rate effective October 2026, Naples night lengths from USNO

Running LED landscape lighting in Naples costs a few dollars a month.

June, dusk to dawn

LED up lights (FX FB, 4.0 W each)$3.01

20-watt halogen lamps$15.05

December, dusk to dawn

LED up lights (FX FB, 4.0 W each)$3.97

20-watt halogen lamps$19.86

6-hour timer

LED up lights (FX FB, 4.0 W each)$1.77

20-watt halogen lamps$8.83

Transformer losses, taxes and fees aren't included. These are utility estimates, not a NightScapes price.

| 20 fixtures, 30 nights | Draw | June, dusk to dawn | December, dusk to dawn | 6-hour timer |
| --- | --- | --- | --- | --- |
| LED up lights (FX FB, 4.0 W each) | 80 W | 24.6 kWh, $3.01 | 32.4 kWh, $3.97 | 14.4 kWh, $1.77 |
| 20-watt halogen lamps | 400 W | 122.8 kWh, $15.05 | 162.0 kWh, $19.86 | 72.0 kWh, $8.83 |

Dollar figures use FPL's 12.258-cent rate for the first 1,000 kilowatt-hours; above 1,000, the LED row runs $3.50 in June and $4.62 in December. Transformer losses, taxes and fees aren't included. These are utility estimates, not a NightScapes price.

The halogen row is the reason older systems cost more to run. FX's lamp table lists its 20-watt-equivalent MR-16 LED lamp at an actual 4.0 watts (4.3 VA), and FX notes halogen lights can draw anywhere from 10 to 50 watts each, sometimes more \[[6](https://www.nightscapeslandscapelighting.com/blog/landscape-lighting-cost-naples#ref-6)\]\[[13](https://www.nightscapeslandscapelighting.com/blog/landscape-lighting-cost-naples#ref-13)\].

This guide uses FPL's residential rate effective October 2026. If FPL changes its rates, the running-cost figures here change with them. Marco Island, Sanibel, Captiva and Everglades City are served by LCEC, not FPL, so use your own utility's rate there \[[14](https://www.nightscapeslandscapelighting.com/blog/landscape-lighting-cost-naples#ref-14)\].

06Reading the quote

## Reading a quote line by line

A useful landscape lighting quote lets you compare it to another one line by line. FX Luminaire sells through wholesale distributors and designs its products "for installation by professional contractors," so two quotes can name the same brand and still describe very different systems \[[15](https://www.nightscapeslandscapelighting.com/blog/landscape-lighting-cost-naples#ref-15)\]. Ask for these seven lines in writing.

1. Fixture make, model and material for every fixture type (for example, an FX FB up light in aluminum, or an FX FG path light in brass and copper).
2. How many of each fixture type, and what each one lights.
3. The transformer: its size in VA, how much of it the design uses (FX advises staying under 80 percent), and where it will be mounted \[[6](https://www.nightscapeslandscapelighting.com/blog/landscape-lighting-cost-naples#ref-6)\].
4. Wire gauge and the number of runs, and where any run crosses pavers, a pool deck or a driveway.
5. Controls: photocell, timer, astronomical timer, or a controller with zones and dimming.
6. LED fixture boards or replaceable lamps, and the color temperature.
7. What's included after installation, such as the first adjustment once plants fill in.

When two quotes differ by a lot, compare lines 1, 2 and 4 first: the count, the material and the wire carry most of the cost. If one quote is missing those lines, it isn't a lower price for the same system. It's a different system.

07Spending in phases

## Spending in phases

You don't have to light the whole property at once. You can start with the zones you use most, such as the entry, the front facade and the path to the door, and add the backyard, the palms or the dock later.

Phasing works when the first phase is built for the second. That means a transformer with room for the later zones (FX's guide says to stay under 80 percent of its rated capacity for exactly this reason) and wire runs that can be extended \[[6](https://www.nightscapeslandscapelighting.com/blog/landscape-lighting-cost-naples#ref-6)\]. The one thing worth doing early, even if the fixtures wait, is laying sleeves under new pavers or a new pool deck. Boring under finished hardscape later is one of the more expensive lines a quote can carry.

### How much do outdoor lights cost to run?

LED landscape lighting costs a few dollars a month to run in Naples. Twenty LED up lights at 4.0 watts each, running dusk to dawn, use about 24.6 kilowatt-hours in a June month and 32.4 in a December month. On FPL's residential rate effective October 2026 (12.258 cents per kilowatt-hour for the first 1,000), that's about $3.01 to $3.97, before taxes, fees and transformer losses. A 6-hour timer brings it to about $1.77. The same 20 fixtures with 20-watt halogen lamps would use about five times the power.

### Can you add to my existing lights?

Often, yes, and adding to an existing system usually costs less than starting over. What decides it is the transformer and the wire already in the ground. If the transformer has room left on its rating and the existing runs can carry more load without the farthest fixture falling below 10 volts, new fixtures can join the system. If not, the addition needs a larger transformer, a second one, or a new run. A halogen system can usually be converted to LED in stages, which frees up transformer capacity for new fixtures.

### How many outdoor lights does a property need?

There's no standard count, which is exactly why quotes differ. The number comes from the design: what you want to see from the street, the lanai and the dock, and what should stay dark. A Naples lot with a facade, a front path, three tall palms and a seawall needs a different count than one with a courtyard entry and hedges. Palms in particular need fixtures and transformer capacity sized for the height they'll reach. Ask any company you're comparing to show you the design behind the count, zone by zone, so you can see what each fixture does.

### How do I get an accurate landscape lighting quote?

Ask for a quote built on a design for your property, not a package price. The most accurate quotes come after someone has walked the property with you, ideally at night, and decided what gets lit and what stays dark. The written quote should list fixture make, model and material for every fixture type, how many of each, the transformer's size in VA and where it will be mounted, the wire gauge and runs, and the controls. FX's design guide tells installers not to load a transformer beyond 80 percent of its rated capacity, so ask how much of the transformer the design uses. A quote without those lines can't be compared with another one.

### Does Florida's climate change what I should buy?

Yes, mostly in the materials and connections. Salt spray is heaviest near breaking waves and falls off sharply over the first 300 to 3,000 feet inland, according to FEMA. It still speeds corrosion as far as 5 to 10 miles from the coast. Wet summers and daily irrigation keep fixtures and connections damp. Near the water, brass, copper and stainless hardware hold up better than painted aluminum, and sealed connections matter wherever the ground stays wet.

## What to do next

The number on a Naples landscape lighting quote comes mostly from your property: how many fixtures it needs, what they're made of, how far and through what the wire runs, how tall the palms are, how close the salt is, and what turtle rules allow. The electricity is the small part, a few dollars a month for an LED system on FPL's October 2026 rate \[[1](https://www.nightscapeslandscapelighting.com/blog/landscape-lighting-cost-naples#ref-1)\].

Start by deciding what you want to see at night and from where. Then ask for a quote that lists every line above, and compare quotes line by line rather than by the total.

NightScapes has designed, installed and repaired [outdoor lighting in Naples](https://www.nightscapeslandscapelighting.com/landscape-lighting) since 2006 (Todd since 1998), and outdoor lighting is all we do.
